Jazzworks Artist of the Month ~ Jen Chapin

August Jazzworks with a twist…This month for Jazzworks we will be featuring, National Act, Jen Chapin. Jen Chapin has a sound that is very distinct and when you hear her you know it is something special. Jen Chapin’s music is urban folk — story songs that search for community and shared meaning, powered by the funk, soul and improvisation of the city. Critics have hailed her work on her albums Linger (2004) and Ready (2006) as “brilliant.. soulfully poetic” (NPR), “thoughtful.. worth-savoring” (People), “addictive” (Boston Globe), “smart, observant, lyrically deft, politically aware and emotionally intuitive” (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel). JazzTimes has called her “a first-rate storyteller” while Relix regards her as “one of the freshest voices singing today." She has been featured on “Late Nite with Conan O’Brien,” honored by the USA Songwriting Competition, appeared on stage with Bruce Springsteen, and opened up for Bruce Hornsby and the Neville Brothers. Her performances are powerful, spotlighting the world-class musicianship.

The Center will be turned into a coffee-house style event, with a Raw-Seafood Bar, wait staff, and a twist on our monthly event. The format for the event is as follows:

5:00-5:30pm open chat and reception

5:30 pm music starts -- Concert style/Coffee house

7:00 pm meet Jen Chapin

Preregistration for this event is required and some of the Proceeds will benefit Easter Seals Rhode Island an organization specializing in Early Intervention for children.  We look forward to seeing you Wednesday, August, 18, 2010 @ 5:00 for this Event.
