April Jazzworks with a twist…This month for Jazzworks we will be featuring, Occidental Gypsy Jazz Quartet.

Their well rehearsed and lightning fast swing brings the Parisian jazz manouche of the 1930's alive and the audience to it's feet.  The musical genre has undergone a tremendous resurgence in popularity for it's sophisticated yet sentimental sound and swinging precise rhythm, often light hearted and whimsical, sometimes aching with melancholy. It was guitarist Jean Baptiste “Django “ Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli along with their Quintet of the Hot Club of France who eventually codified this fusion of swing, American jazz and manouche (traditional gypsy music).

The Center will be turned into a coffee-house style event, The format for the event is as follows:

5:00-5:30pm open chat and reception

5:30 pm music starts -- Concert style/Coffee house

7:00 pm meet Occidental Gypsy Jazz Quartet

Preregistration for this event is required and some of the Proceeds will benefit Easter Seals Rhode Island an organization specializing in Early Intervention for children.  We look forward to seeing you Tuesday, April 26, 2010 @ 5:00 for this Event.
